About

Marieke has been teaching yoga since 2015. She has earned a 200-hour RYT in Hatha Yoga at Lotus Bloom Yoga Studio in Prescott, Arizona and a 200-hr Anusara Elements YTT with master Anusara teacher Jayendra Hanley at the Tree of Life Yoga Studio in Tervuren, Belgium. She also holds a PhD in Sustainability Education from Prescott College.

Marieke teaches Restorative and Anusara yoga. Anusara means “to flow with grace.” The Anusara School of Hatha Yoga was originally derived by John Friend, who developed the method by blending Tantric philosophy with alignment principles outlined in Iyengar yoga. Anusara embodies six Universal Principles and honors the sacred and divine in all beings. Restorative Yoga employs props to allow for a ceasing of effort and soothing of the nervous system.

Marieke offers a unique blend of asana infused with her own original music, which she performs during Savasana. She performs kirtan and original music on harmonium, ukulele, and guitar during her Restorative yoga classes. Marieke has a strong connection to nature and has been deeply inspired by the animals in her life, particularly her wolf dog, Okami, who embodied an otherworldy, mystical spirit. She believes in freeing our inner being through self-study, the practice of meditation and asana, and in lifting our voices together in song. Join Marieke to explore the benefits of yoga, on and off the mat, and to open your heart to experience your greatest potential!
